The new VTB Stadium and Arena Development – named after VTB Bank, the Moscow bank spearheading the $1.5 billion USD development — encompasses a new 45,000-seat FIFA regulation outdoor stadium, a 12,000-15,000-seat indoor multi-purpose arena, a high-end mixed-use commercial entertainment district, residential towers, commercial office towers, and a new five-star hotel.

David Manica, an independent architect in Kansas City who spent 13 1/2 years with Populous until leaving the firm in 2007, is designing the arena and the stadium. Manica helped AEG develop Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai in accordance with NBA standards, one of the three arenas operated as part of AEG’s venture with NBA China. The other arenas are in Beijing and Guangzhou.

Guangzhou Arena Opens to NBA China Game

Guangzhou International Sports Arena is an indoor arena located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It has a seating capacity of around 18,000 spectators and 60 luxurious VIP boxes. On October 16, it will host an NBA China Game between the Houston Rockets and the New Jersey Nets, after the two played against each other in Beijing. The arena, designed by MANICA Architecture in partnership with the Guangzhou Design Institute, will not only host Asian Games events in 2010 but will also be home to a wide variety of world-class events such as basketball, international ice events and major music concerts.

MANICA w/ FOSTERS win new 86,000 seat stadium in Qatar for 2022 World Cup bid

MANICA Architecture will apply its sports design expertise in partnership with Fosters+Partners for the new Lusail Stadium in Doha, Qatar. The new 86,000+ seat stadium is the centerpiece of Qatar’s bid for the 2022 World Cup.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar 2022 Bid, said:

“The Lusail Iconic Stadium will serve as the perfect venue for the opening and final matches of the World Cup. The stadium will inspire a new generation of regional and international sports venues, incorporating environmentally friendly cooling technologies to ensure the ideal conditions for players and spectators alike.
