David Manica believes in stunning design and innovative functionality as the path to successful buildings.  In his 22 years designing large public assembly facilities, David has forged a vision for some of the world’s highest-profile stadium, arena and convention projects totaling over $10billion in construction.  His comprehensive experience spans all phases of project development.  He values a collaborative approach to design that successfully solves all of his clients’ needs related to aesthetics, program, budget, function, and schedule.  Mr. Manica’s passionate commitment and dedication to balancing the complicated needs of his clients have earned him lasting relationships with them all.
Prior to establishing his own design studio in 2007, MANICA Architecture, David worked for thirteen years as a Senior Project Designer at HOK Sport Venue and Event (now Populous), where he was responsible for leading the design of some of the largest and most recognized facilities in the world, including Toyota Center, Reliant Stadium, O2 Arena London, Beijing Olympic Arena, and the New Wembley Stadium in London, England.  Now, as president and director of MANICA, his company’s designs are recognized worldwide as some of the most innovative, iconic, functional, and cost-effective projects in the industry. Current and recent projects include: The concept design of the new NFL Stadium and Convention Center in downtown San Diego, the proposed NFL Stadium for the Chargers/Raiders in Los Angeles (Carson, CA), The new San Francisco NBA Arena (San Francisco, USA), VTB Arena Park (Moscow, Russia), Inter-Milan Stadium Concept (Milan, Italy), The Mercedes-Benz Arena (Shanghai, China), and The Shantou Sport Park (Shantou, China).
David Manica’s work is enjoyed by millions of people around the world, and his designs have a profoundly positive effect on the life of entire cities.  His ability to maintain the design integrity in spite of the inherent challenges of multi-phase, large scale projects has established him as a key personality in the industry.  His designs have established new benchmarks that have been emulated by other professionals worldwide.  Mr. Manica was recognized and honored as one of Sports Business Journal’s “Fifty Power Players in Sports Development, and was one of the nation’s first ever “40 Under 40” by Building Construction and Design.  He is also a regular contributing author for articles published in Stadia and Panstadia, two premiere international publications that focus on the design and operation of stadiums, arenas, and convention centers.
Mr. Manica has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kansas where he graduated with honors as Salutatorian in his class.  He holds active licenses as an architect in the states of California, Missouri, and Kansas.   He returns to campus regularly as a guest lecturer and critic for the young architecture students.  He is currently a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Board, (NCARB), and is an accredited LEED professional for sustainable design.
